Abstract :

Palm trees constitute an important source of product for daily life in the sub-prefecture of Bouna. They play an important role in food, income security and the social life of the population (Bouna subprefecture). The objective of this article is to understand, on the one hand, the economic value in the sale of palm tree components in the lives of populations and, on the other hand, the environmental damage due to the abusive exploitation of Borassus aethiopium palm trees. To understand the subject of this paper we asked ourselves the following question: what are the socioeconomic impacts and environmental consequences of the exploitation of the palm tree? A survey questionnaire was sent to hypocotyl sellers, fan sellers, wood sellers in the large markets of the Bouna sub-prefecture as well as interview guides and collection sheets. The results of the surveys show that hypocotyls and fans of the palm tree are the subject of a flourishing trade in the study area. The production of hypocotyls is valued in the study area and represents 70% of the income of the women and men who actually engage in it.
